Yo, Melbourne! I’m about half way through my time here and there are still so many of you I haven’t met. If you don’t have plans for tomorrow, then let’s hang out at the Peel Street Block Party.
I had the pleasure of meeting up with a pretty bad ass woman named Grace a few weeks ago, and she told me about a project she’s involved in called The Social Studio.
The Social Studio is a place that offers training and certification opportunities for refugees and those from new migrant backgrounds. They offer training in the fields of Fashion (through partnership with RMIT), Hospitality, and Retail. You can read more about them here, and shop the designs of some of their students here.
Here are a few photos from their latest lookbook.
Overall, The Social Studio is a pretty bad ass place, and what they do for the community with the opportunities they offer is awesome.
They have teamed up with a couple other companies to bring on the Peel Street Block Party which is going on tomorrow at Corner Peel st / Oxford st in Collingwood, from 12 till 6pm. The event is free and will have tons of live music, fashion shows, and market vendors.
If you don’t have plans tomorrow, you should definitely come by, check it out, meet some of the amazing people who put it on, and see some of the designs from the students. And if you need someone to go with, I will definitely be there!
Hope to see you then.
